About Living Fuels

What Are Living Fuels About?

At Living Fuels we recycle used cooking oil into a patented biofuel, LF100, and generate green electricity and heat for customers all around the UK.

We collect used oil from both the private and public sectors (please see if your business qualifies for a free oil collection) and then recycle it into biofuel in a unique process which creates purified vegetable oil without any added chemicals or supplements.

The recycled used oil can provide renewable energy for the same company who disposed of the oil in the first place, thus reducing their emission and costs.

Living Fuels are part of Renewable Energy Generation, the £70m AIM-listed renewable energy company. We are based at Hockwold, near Thetford in Norfolk.

Recovering Used Cooking Oil

Previously much of the UK’s used cooking oil was just dumped in landfill sites or worse - down the drain, but this is no longer acceptable or indeed sensible.

Caterers are now legally required to dispose of used oil through registered and licensed collectors or face large fines. Living Fuels complies with all necessary legislation.

We can help businesses avoid disposing of cooking oil to expensive and wasteful landfill sites.

Generating Renewable Energy From Used Oil

It is shocking that oil capable of producing substantial quantities of clean electricity can be literally thrown away.

It has long been recognised that much of used cooking oil is worth recovering and refining as fuel, but there has been real frustration because until now the biofuel produced has been incapable of powering electricity generation reliably.

Biofuel From Used Cooking Oil: LF100

The challenge was to find a way of completely removing the impurities from the used oil, and we’ve done it.

Use of biofuel refined from used cooking oil like our patented LF100 can save thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions by displacing electricity generated from fossil fuels.

Reducing Carbon Footprint

This process is most important to companies and organisations in the catering sector that wish to reduce their carbon footprint.

It therefore enhances the reputation of the companies concerned, and they could even complete the virtuous circle by generating their own electricity from the resulting biofuel.

The importance of reducing carbon emissions and avoiding runaway climate change cannot be over-stated. Innovative developments like ours have a really important part to play in building Britain’s green energy capacity.

Underlining this commitment, all Living Fuels vehicles used to collect used vegetable cooking oil have been converted to run on the same biofuel.
